Manifesting Abundance

Do you believe you already have everything you need in life to be satisfied and happy? Or better yet, do you feel what you already have at your grasp is enough for you to be happy? To take it even further, do you believe that you, yourself, are enough to be at peace and in a true state of contentment?

Almost seven years ago, I traveled to Nigeria and was initiated into the priesthood of the orisa Olokun. In the traditional spirituality of the Yoruba and Edo people, Olokun is the primordial force of nature representing the energy of water, specifically the ocean. As the spirit of all waters, Olokun also represents all the spiritual properties of water such as healing, cleansing, rebirth, emotion, intuition, the subconscious, depths of wisdom, fertility, and of course wealth, abundance, and prosperity. As the Olokun initiation I received was of the Bini lineage from Benin City, my “godmother” (one of the women who initiated me) also gave me the Bini name of Osemwenyene (Oh-say-mwen-yeh-neh) which essentially means I am satisfied or I have enough, or I do not want for anything.

It wasn’t until much later when I realized what a blessing my name is. It is my affirmation that helps me to speak what I know to be my destiny into reality. When I live through challenging circumstances that test my self-confidence or tempt me to live in a space of worry or fear, I remember the name given me and it draws me out of the past or future and into the present where I need to be and I remember that I have enough. I am fine. I actually really do already have abundance and have never been without what I need, even when sometimes certain situations don’t work out or come to an end. For this realization, I am so grateful. Why should I ever doubt that this would ever not be the case?

Abundance is simply being happy with what is present in your life and knowing/believing it is enough. When you are truly aligned with your purpose and feeling fulfilled, you become satisfied and everything you have at your disposal feels enough. You don’t really feel like you’re missing anything.

At this point, it is important to consciously express gratitude as it maintains awareness of where you are and what you have and releases back an energy of fulfillment that eventually circles back to you as you continue to attract abundance. Once you know that within the earth, the universe, and even yourself already exists everything you need in life. It’s just a matter of being aware of it and balancing the internal with the external.

Now, let’s talk specifically about one type of abundance … money.

Contrary to what some folks are taught to believe, money is not the root of all evil. Money is an energy connected to the universal law of abundance.

Think about how you already use this energy of money—how you earn it and how you spend it. Do you use it to bring love, happiness, health, wisdom to your life driven by your spirt? Or do you use it to fill a void within yourself driven by fear of scarcity, insecurities, and ego? Without confusing material things for happiness, does money bring you joy or sorrow?

The paper bills, notes, and coins are just the physical/material representation of the spiritual energy of abundance. The more you have, the more you can give. If you are a sincere giver, the “givings” will continue to be provided for you to give. The more you give the more you will receive back. Try not to focus energy worrying about what you don’t have. Because you attract the energy that you put out, a generous giver will always receive generosity in return. A greedy, miserly, or insecure person will never feel as if they have enough of it and only live out the saying “more money, more problems.”

Now this is not to say to waste money and just spend it foolishly without regard to your means. This is more a call to think about your relationship with money and where your motivations come from to make money or to spend money, then see how that connects to your happiness, sense of purpose, and feelings of abundance and peace of mind.

Remember to live in a space of gratitude and respect for the freedom and choices that money can bring by not taking them for granted. Take a few minutes every now and then to meditate on this and call money to you.
